SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team will look to carry the momentum from the season opener as the Bulldogs travel to face USC Upstate on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
Season Opener
The Bulldogs got off to a strong start in the season opener as they used a pair of first-half goals to defeat Gardner-Webb, 3-1. Alex Madden and Suzuka Yosue scored in the first half, while Sophie Saldivar added a goal in the second half.
 
Yosue Moves Up Charts
Suzuka Yosue assisted on the Bulldogs first goal of the season against GWU. The assist was the 14^th of her career, moving her into a tie for second place on the school's all-time list.
 
Saldivar Impressive Debut
Sophie Saldivar was impressive in her Bulldog debut as the graduate transfer assisted on a goal in the first half and scored a goal in the second half.
 
Newton Comes up Big
Jess Newton kept the Bulldogs in front in the season opener as she dove to her left and made a big save on a penalty kick. She would go on to finish with three saves in the match.
 
Series With the Spartans
The Bulldogs and Spartans are meeting for the seventh time on the pitch with Upstate holding a 3-2-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Citadel has had its struggles on the road as they have lost both meeting played in Spartanburg.
 
Scouting USC Upstate
The Spartans opened the season with an impressive 11-0 victory over Spartanburg Methodist. Seven different players scored in the match with Ashley Finn and Rachel Satchell each recording a hat trick.

The Bulldogs begin a four-match home stand as they welcome Anderson to WLI Field on Aug. 29. The match is set to get underway at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
