Soccer Returns Home for Pair of SoCon Matches

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After being away from home for a full month, The Citadel soccer team will play its first home games at WLI Field on Oct. 1 and Oct. 3. The Bulldogs welcome Chattanooga Friday at 11 a.m. and Samford on Sunday at 1 p.m. Friday's game against the Mocs will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
Newton Sets Solo Shutout Record
Goalkeeper Jess Newton recorded her seventh career solo shutout in the conference opener against ETSU last week. She is now the program's all-time career leader in solo shutouts. She has four solo shutouts this season, equaling the mark set by Whitney Nave in 2009.
 
Yosue Leads League in Scoring
Junior forward Suzuka Yosue leads the Southern Conference in goals, assists and points. She has seven goals, eight assists and 22 total points. Her eight assists are tied for the fourth-most in the NCAA.
 
Scouting Chattanooga
UTC enters Friday's contest with an overall record of 4-5-2, and 1-0-1 in SoCon action. Samantha Shaw leads the offense with four goals, while Abbey Sadler has made 57 saves.
 
Scouting Samford
Samford enters the weekend with an overall record of 5-3-2, and a 2-0 mark in conference action. The Bulldogs play at Mercer on Friday. Alyssa Frazier and Kylie Gazza have each scored three goals on the season. Morgan McAslan has made 33 saves in net and recorded four shutouts.
