THE WEEK AT A GLANCE
The Citadel heads upstate the next two games at Furman Thursday at 7 P.M. and Wofford Sunday at 2 P.M. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
LOOKING TO REBOUND
After beating defending SoCon champion Samford two weeks ago, the Bulldogs have suffered two straight-one goal losses at the hands of Chattanooga and ETSU. The Mocs went ahead 2-nil before The Citadel struck late in the match. The Bulldogs peppered the Bucs in shots 24-5 and 10-4 in shots on goal, but could not get the ball over as one ETSU goal off a direct free kick made all the difference.
THE CITADEL UPSETS SAMFORD!
The Citadel posted a stunning 1-nil victory Sept. 23 at SoCon preseason favorite Samford.
Suzuka Yosue scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute off a feed from
Zoey Conrad. Goalie
Jess Newton logged six saves to give the Bulldogs their third straight shutout victory. It gave The Citadel just its second ever win over Samford and first since 2013, snapping the defending champions' 21-game SoCon regular season non-losing streak dating back to 2019.
TRAQUAIR ON THE WINNING TRACK
The Bulldogs' big win over Samford made head coach
Ciaran Traquair the winningest coach in program history with 48 career wins, eclipsing Bob Winch's mark of 47 during his run from 2006-15. Traquair now holds the winningest marks in both total wins and percentage with .423.
YOSUE RISES THROUGH THE RANKS!
Suzuka Yosue's game-winning score at Samford gave her 20 career goals, which puts her at sixth all-time and one away from reaching Amy Loughran for fifth (2008-11). Yosue holds the program's career assists record with 30, while her 70 points is third all-time and just three away from reaching Vanessa Aponte (2010-12, '14) for second all-time and nine short of leader Mariana Garcia's 79 (2010-13).
