Bulldogs Take North Charleston With Comeback Victory

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel erased a five-point lead in the final 4:06 to pull out a gutty, 76-73, victory over Charleston Southern Wednesday evening inside the Buc Dome.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs got off to a quick start as David Maynard scored the first five points of the game.
  • CSU was able to respond to the early run to take a 25-13 lead midway through the first half.
  • The game of runs continued as The Citadel went on a 25-7 run to close out the first half and take a 42-34 lead into the locker room.
  • The second half started with the Bucs coming out of the locker room hot, turning the eight-point deficit into a two-point lead seven minutes into the half.
  • The teams would go back-and-forth for the next eight minutes before the Bucs went on a 7-1 run to take a 70-65 lead with 4:06 to play.
  • Madison Durr would hit a layup to pull the Dogs within three, before coming down on the next possession and converting a three-point play.
  • Both teams would exchange free throws to keep the game tied. CSU went back to the line, but missed both free throws. Stephen Clark went down to the other end of the floor and knocked down a pair of free throws.
  • The Bulldogs got a stop on defense, but the Bucs were able to get back to the line, trailing by two. After missing the first, CSU hit the second to make it a one-point game.
  • Durr would make a pair of free throws to push the advantage to three points, and the Bulldog defense would come up big one more time, forcing a long three-point attempt that was not close.

  • The victory was the fourth victory against a Division I team this season. It marks the first time in program history the Bulldogs have claimed four Division I victories in the month of November.
  • The previous record was three victories during the 2009-10 season.
  • The victory was also the second true road victory of the season, marking the second-straight season with two road victories in November.
  • Stephen Clark played all 40 minutes and tied his career-high with 26 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the floor. He also added eight rebounds.
  • It marked the second-straight game Clark finished with 26 points.
  • Austin Ash also played all 40 minutes, finishing with 22 points. He went 4-of-9 from beyond the arc and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Ash added six rebounds and three assists.
  • Madison Durr scored eight of his nine points in the second half, including seven points in the game-s final four minutes.
  • The Bulldogs finished the game 23-of-29 from the foul line, including going 9-for-9 in the final 4:51 of the game.
