CORALVILLE, Iowa – The Citadel wrestling team put four wrestlers into the quarterfinals on the first day of the inaugural Solder Salute Tournament at the Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
How it Happened
- John Chesser had a strong opening session for the Bulldogs as he started the day with a 4-3 victory over Kevin Zimmer, then followed it up in the Round of 16 with a 9-5 decision over Thad Huff of Bellarmine.
- After falling in the quarterfinals, Chesser came back with a fall over Mason Ding of Wyoming, just under a minute into the third period.
- Micah DiCarlo pulled off an impressive win in the Round of 16 as he secured a takedown in the final seconds to defeat Jaxon Bowers of South Dakota State.
- After falling in the quarterfinals, DiCarlo came back to secure a major decision victory over Jai Sadhi.
- Ben Haubert opened the day with a decision over Kyle Mosher of Columbia. After a setback in the quarterfinals, Haubert took care of business with an 11-6 decision over Dillon Sheehy of Army.
- The Bulldogs put a pair of wrestlers into the quarterfinals at 133 pounds. Both George Rosas and Brayton Killiri advanced, Rosas by medical forfeit and Killiri by decision.
