A Happy Homecoming at Last!
  • Head Coach Duggar Baucom won his first game in Cameron Hall since calling it his home as head coach of the Keydets from 2005-15. Saturday marked his Bulldogs' seventh meeting at VMI dating back to the 2015-16 season.
  • The win also marked The Citadel's first victory at VMI since 2002, winning, 75-55, on Feb. 18 of that year.
  • The Bulldogs are now 7-2 on the year when leading at halftime.
  • Hayden Brown has scored at least 20 points in each of The Citadel's last seven victories. The Bulldogs have won four of the last five games Brown has played fully in.
  • Saturday's game was broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network as part of their Salute to Service coverage.
How it Happened
  • The Citadel held a steady lead through the first ten minutes before VMI took the lead at 20-18 with 7:52 left before halftime.
  • The Bulldogs countered with a 14-0 run, capitalized by threes from Jason Roche, Stephen Clark, and Hayden Brown.
  • VMI closed to within four at 34-30 before Tyler Moffe drained a pair of threes in the final minute, with his latter beating the buzzer to go up, 40-32, at halftime.
  • The Citadel's momentum continued to start the second half with an 11-2 run, inching its lead up to as much as 19 at 57-38 with 14:19 to go.
  • VMI refused to relent, taking advantage of Brown sitting most of the second half with four fouls by making an 8-0 run and reducing the Bulldogs' lead to 62-57 with under 7:30 remaining.
  • Roche, Clark, and Moffe each answered with threes to regain momentum at 71-59 with 4:55 to go.
  • The Keydets' final charge was the most serious, drawing to within two at 78-76 with under one minute left. With The Citadel in the bonus, VMI sent Brown to the free throw line, making both to go up 80-76 with 27.2 ticks left.
  • Clark's fourth and final block was timely, swatting away a Honor Huff layup attempt on the ensuing possession. The Bulldogs made three of their last four free throw attempts, with a buzzer-beating three from VMI's Kamdyn Curfman making up the last points.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Citadel finished 45.9 percent shooting (28-of-61) to VMI's 42.3 percent (30-of-71), with the Bulldogs making 17-of-32 threes to the Keydets' 13-of-36.
  • Stephen Clark posted his first double-double since Chattanooga on Jan. 29 with 10 points and 13 rebounds. He also logged his highest block total since Mercer on Jan. 17 with four blocks, while dishing out six assists.
  • Hayden Brown led all scorers with 22 points for his third straight 20-point game and posted seven rebounds, making 7-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-3 from 3-point range. He outworked his counterpart Jake Stephens in points, with Stephens finishing with 21 markers. Brown and Stephens entered Saturday as two of the SoCon's top three scorers.
  • Tyler Moffe and David Maynard accounted for at least half of the Bulldogs' threes, with each finishing with 16 points. Moffe shot 5-of-7 from behind the arc and Maynard 4-of-8.

Rising Through the Ranks!

  • Hayden Brown's 1,280 career points slots him up to 13th all-time, while his 650 career boards stands seventh all-time.
