INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA released its brackets for the 2022 Wrestling Championships that will be held at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on March 17-19.
Southern Conference champion
Dazjon Casto enters the tournament as the No. 22 seed and will face No. 11 Austin O'Connor of North Carolina in the first round. The pairing will be matched up with No. 6 Jared Franek (North Dakota State) and No. 27 Garrett Model (Wisconsin)
Casto and Franek met earlier this season at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas with Franek coming away with a 5-3 decision.
Michael McAleavey enters the championships as the No. 28 seed and will face No. 5 seed Wyatt Hendrickson of Air Force in the opening round. Their match is paired up with No. 12 Christian Lance (Nebraska) and No. 21 Tyrie Houghton (NC State).
McAleavey and Houghton have met twice over the past two seasons. The two met in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last season, and again at The Citadel open earlier this year. Houghton came away with the decision victory in both matches.
The early sessions will be aired on ESPNU, while the evening sessions will be aired on ESPN.
