Record Breakers at Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams broke three school records at the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday.

Men's Results
  • Sam Sharnas set a personal best and broke the school's all-time record in the 5,000m run. He finished in the top spot with a time of 14:55.63, beating the previous all-time mark of 15:00.87 set by Andrew Cawood in 1998.
  • Pole Vaulter Sam Blumer finished in third place after clearing 16-06.75.
  • JP Caglione threw 186-05 in the hammer throw to earn himself third overall. He finished in the eighth place in the shot put with a put of 51-06.25
  • Caleb McDonald took the fourth spot in the javelin with a throw of 114-10.
  • Andrew Smith finished in fourth place and set a personal record of 1:55.34 in the 800m run.
  • Will Ray finished in fifth in the 1500m with a time of 4:10.16.
  • Reggie Reynolds earned sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 150-09.
  • Alex Wulfhorst competed in the 1500m invite; he finished sixth with a personal best of 3:58.62.
  • Fred Hamilton and Ian McCorkle finished in the seventh and ninth spots in the Javelin. Hamilton threw 138-04, and McCorkle threw 132-07.
 
Women's Results
  • Heidi Fortin broke the school's all-time record in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:03.89. Fortin set a personal best and bests the old record of 18:26.00 set by Caillian Colquitt in 2016.
  • Emily Hickey set a personal best and broke the school's all-time record in the pole vault by clearing 11-01.75. She broke the previous record set by Sam Engel with 11-0.75 in 2021.
  • Gabby Shea set a personal record in the 800m run with a time of 2:17.85. Shea finished in second and now moves up to fifth all-time.
  • Ali Ruffin set a personal best and finished in second place in the javelin throw with a toss of 123-06. She sits at ninth all-time in the school's record book.
  • Carisma Holland took the fifth spot in the shot put after throwing 45-03.50.
  • Maddy Cardenas and Myan Dollard both set personal records in the javelin. Cardenas finished fourth and threw 110-09. Dollard finished fifth and threw 106-06.
  • Tatiana Corso took the eighth spot in the hammer throw by throwing 139-08. Corso also set a personal record in the discus with a throw of 123-03.
  • Shannon Ziccarello finished in eighth place in the javelin with a throw of 93-08.

The Bulldogs will return to Columbia to compete in the USC Outdoor Open on Apr. 23.
