Bulldogs Fall on Last Second Shot

CHARLESTON, S.C. – In a wild back-and-forth game in the second half, it was Chicago State that made the final shot in a 76-75 victory over The Citadel Monday evening inside McAlister Field House.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs got on the board first with a jumper from Elijah Morgan.
  • The Cougars were able to get their offense going to open a seven-point advantage before Stephen Clark hit a free throw to cut the deficit to three.
  • The Cougars would respond with a 13-4 run to open a 14-point advantage before Austin Ash hit a pair of three-pointers to send the game to halftime with the Bulldogs trailing, 44-34.
  • Things got exciting in the second half as the Bulldogs came out of the locker room on a 20-9 run to take the lead on an Elijah Morgan three-pointer with 11:11 to play.
  • From that point, the lead changed hands 13 times with neither team able to open up more than a three-point advantage.
  • The Citadel would take its largest advantage of the half at the 3:51 mark on a three-pointer from Ash to make it 68-65.
  • CSU was able to battle back over the next two minutes and take a two point lead on a three-pointer from Bryce Jordan with 1:46 to play.
  • Morgan gave the Bulldogs the lead with a three-pointer, then stole the ball for a breakaway layup with 59 seconds remaining.
  • After the Cougars scored to make it a one-point game, the Bulldogs missed a corner jumper on the other end of the court.
  • On the final possession of the game, former Bulldog Brent Davis hit a runner going across the lane to score the game winner with 0.3 seconds remaining.

  • Austin Ash led the Bulldogs with a game-high 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Stephen Clark added 20 points, six rebounds and three assists.
  • The game marked the second time this season that Ash and Clark each scored at least 20 points. The previous occurrence happened on Nov. 30, 2022 against Charleston Southern when Clark scored 26 points and Ash added 22.
