The Citadel Eyes Rematch with Mercer in SoCon First Round

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
 The Citadel women's soccer team begins The Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship on Tuesday with a rematch of this past Sunday's contest as they head to 7-seeded Mercer.

For the second straight season, the Bulldogs will face the same opponent they finished the regular season against two days later in The SoCon Championships first round (VMI).

LAST TIME
  • On Sunday, Mercer scored a pair of goals seven minutes apart early into the second half to beat the Bulldogs 2-0.
BEARS BREAKDOWN:
  • Mercer is led offensively by sophomore Jada Moorman and freshman Larkin Thomason who are tied atop of the SoCon with 11 goals each, after both netted a marker on Sunday.
  • The Bears out shot the Bulldogs 14-6 in that match, in line with their 15.7 shots per game average in league matches.
  • Their goalkeeper ranks in the middle of the pack in SoCon play in GAA (1.22) and save percentage (.732) as the Bulldogs hope to get more shots on frame Tuesday evening.
BULLDOGS BIO
  • The Citadel has met Mercer just once in SoCon postseason play, taking a 0-3 result in Macon on 10/25/17.
  • Ariana Paez finished conference regular season play tied for second in assists with four, despite missing two league contests.
  • SoCon offensives have pestered Bulldogs goalkeeper Nora Sampson with shot attempts, but she has answered the bell, currently ranking second among goalkeepers in saves (44) and saves per game (4.89).
 
If The Citadel wins, it will move on to the quarterfinal match, this Friday at 7 p.m. against top-seeded Western Carolina.
