THE WEEK AT A GLANCE
  • FMU has not played a match yet this season as their Division II season doesn't begin until Sept. 3. Therefore, this game will be marked as an exhibition game for the Patriots but a countable match for The Citadel.
  • FMU was 4-9-3 in 2022 and returns just 14 players from a year ago as first-year Head Coach Sam Holmes takes over after being hired from Limestone University.
  • The 49ers enter this week in search of their first win of 2023 after dropping a pair of one-goal contests to James Madison (2-3) and NC State (1-2) last week.
  • Charlotte, who went 4-11-4 a year ago, will make a pair of short trips to South Carolina this week as it first travels to Coastal Carolina on Thursday afternoon.
LAST WEEK RECAP
  • The Bulldogs opened their 2023 season last Friday with a 2-1 road win over Mississippi Valley State as Didi Turay opened the scoring in the 43rd minute before Grace Duncan netted the game-winner in the 65th off an assist from Ariana Paez.
  • In Sunday night's match at Winthrop, The Citadel once again struck first as Paez chased down Samantha Grantham's great ball from beyond midfield and finished it in the far corner, putting the Bulldogs up in the 23rd minute.
  • The Eagles stole a point late as a Winthrop corner kick in the 89th minute went directly into the far top corner to salvage a 1-1 tie.
  • Graduate transfer Nora Sampson has played all 180 minutes in goal for The Citadel so far, making nine saves on 11 shots for a .818 save percentage.
