Ruffin leads the Bulldogs Against the Cougars

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Ali Ruffin posted a match-high 20 kills in a victory over the College of Charleston Cougars 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22) on Tuesday night at McAlister Field House.

How It Happened
  • College of Charleston started with the early lead, 3-0
  • A kill from Ali Ruffin and the assist from Belle Hogan got the Bulldogs on the board.
  • The Cougars rallied off three straight kills to extend their lead to 8-3.
  • A 6-1 run from the Cougars gave them the 18-9 advantage.
  • Efforts from The Citadel were not enough as the College of Charleston would take set one, 24-14.
  • The Cougars opened up the second set on a 6-1 run.
  • Two attack errors and a kill from Hogan narrowed the Cougars lead by two.
  • College of Charleston's lead would grow to 14-9, but the Bulldogs started to battle back.
  • A kill from Ruffin, Maddy Cardenas, and a service ace from Kathleen Bula would narrow the lead to 15-12.
  • The Bulldogs evened the score at 20-20 with kills from Angelina Sayles and Cardenas and a service ace from Sayles.
  • The Bulldogs took set two after Ruffin's two kills, a service ace, and a block from Gina Delancey and Hogan.
  • Both teams would go back and forth to begin set three, with the set being tied at 4-4.
  • The Bulldogs took the lead with a ball-handling error committed by the Cougars to make it 7-6.

  • Kills from Cardenas and Ruffin narrowed the lead to 10-8.
  • The Bulldogs responded to the Cougars' 14-10 lead with a 6-0 run, taking a 16-14 lead.
  • Both teams started to battle back as the set would be even at 20-20.
  • The Bulldogs finished the match strong on a 5-1 run that ended with a Ruffin kill.
