Soccer Starts SoCon Play on Thursday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 3-1-4 Citadel women's soccer team begins Southern Conference play this week, beginning on Thursday at UNC-Greensboro before hosting Chattanooga on Sunday at 2 p.m. for senior day.

 LAST WEEK:
  • The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 in the 47th minute before The Citadel tied the match at 1-1 in the 69, th as Ariana Paez's corner kick was headed in by Grace Duncan for her third goal of the season and second in two matches.
  • In the 77th minute, Danielle Etienne played a ball out wide to Duncan who crossed it into the box. Paez controlled the ball with a good first touch before running by a CSU defender to get an angle and beating the goalkeeper on the far side to put CIT ahead 2-1.
DAP UP DUNCAN:
  • For her efforts, Duncan was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon after her three-point match, the Bulldogs first weekly award of the season.
SPARTANS' SCOUT:
  • UNCG enters at 3-5-1 on a two-match skid after dropping home matches to Duke and East Carolina last week by identical 1-0 margins.
  • Don't let the record fool you however as the Spartans were 10-7-4 a season ago before falling in penalty kicks in the SoCon Championship match to Samford.
  • UNCG is searching for some offense as they are averaging only 0.89 goals per game, netting just eight goals in nine games.
  • The defense is doing their part however, posting an identical goal against average.
BULLDOGS BIO
  • The Citadel is on a four-match unbeaten streak, going 1-0-3 over that span.
  • The offense has bumped its' goals per game average up to 1.63 while allowing just 0.88 goal per game.
  • Paez leads the Bulldogs with 11 points (3g, 5a) with Duncan not far behind at 10 (3g, 4a).
THE SAMPSON STANDARD
  • Grad transfer Nora Sampson has started all eight matches for The Citadel, sporting a .821 save percentage and 0.94 GAA, ranking second and third respectively in the league.
