
The Citadel Athletics Closes Out Fall Semester Boasting 3.303 Overall GPA

95 Cadet-Athletes Earn Gold Stars with 120 Named to the Dean's List
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following a successful fall semester replete with numerous athletic achievements -- headlined by a first-ever Southern Conference regular-season volleyball championship -- across a variety of sports, The Citadel Athletics proudly celebrates another strong term in the classroom as well, finishing with a 3.303 overall GPA as a department along with a slew of individual achievements, including: 48 cadet-athletes boasting 4.0s, 95 earning Gold Stars (3.7+) and 120 scoring recognition on the Dean's List (3.2+).
"The Citadel has long been committed to the academic achievements of our cadet-athletes, and with another semester boasting such notable success, we continue to proudly showcase our unwavering support for the upstanding young men and women who compete both athletically and in the classroom," The Citadel Director of Athletics Mike Capaccio said. "We remain dedicated in our mission to offer the best opportunities for athletes, and these academic results are proof this department has been steadfast in that goal."
From a sport-specific perspective, every program at The Citadel concluded the six-month period with a team GPA 3.0 or better. Men's Tennis paced the department with a 3.676 mark while both Women's Golf (3.538) and Women's Cross Country (3.501) exceeded the 3.5 plateau; Baseball (3.489) and Women's Track & Field (3.423) held out above the 3.4 mark while Women's Soccer (3.383), Volleyball (3.347) and Wrestling (3.341) rounded out the 3.3-plus programs.
Individually, 248 of the department's 342 cadet-athletes -- 72.5 percent -- posted GPAs of 3.0 or better with 48 notably notching perfect 4.0s for the term. Of those 48, four are seniors on track to complete their degrees with the ace achievement. The Bulldogs also graduated 14 cadet-athletes in December, including 11 undergraduate and three graduate.
