CHARLESTON, S.C. --Â The Citadel Athletics has added Clayton Simmons Jr. as the college's new Director of Compliance, per an announcement from the department Monday morning.
"I'm excited to join The Citadel and be back home in the Charleston area. As a proud native of North Charleston, this opportunity means a lot to me. I look forward to representing The Citadel well while helping student-athletes succeed both academically and athletically. Having been a student-athlete myself, I understand how important it is to have the right support, guidance, and resources to succeed both on and off the field. I'm grateful for the opportunity to bring my experience back to the Lowcountry, work alongside the athletics staff, and help our student-athletes grow and succeed during their time at The Citadel and beyond."
Previously, Simmons spent the past two years working a dual role at Benedict College, serving as both an academic advisor and an adjunct professor within the Health & Sports Management department. Prior to joining the Tigers, he worked as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance & Student Development at South Carolina State for one year while also acting as Associate Athletic Director and Title IX Compliance Coordinator for nearly three years at Xavier University of Louisiana.
Simmons earned his bachelor's in physical education from Kentucky State in May 2014 before later securing his graduate degree in recreation & sports management from Western Kentucky in May 2017.
A native of North Charleston, S.C., Simmons currently resides in Charleston, S.C.
