CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel head volleyball coach, Dave Zelenock, has promoted Erin Kretzschmar to Associate Head Coach.

"Erin's promotion is overdue and well-earned. She's been a huge part of our team's success over these three years and will continue to help us improve the program. This title promotion reaffirms what people in our program and on-campus know," said Zelenock. "Erin is an essential person to this program; without her, we wouldn't have been nearly as successful as we have been.

In her first three seasons with The Citadel, Kretzschmar has served as the Bulldogs' assistant coach, and the team has recorded 53 wins. She helped guide the team to a Southern Conference Regular-Season Title in 2023 and has coached SoCon Player of the Year, SoCon Setter of the Year, and SoCon Libero of the Year.

The Citadel achieved numerous records during the 2023 season, with 27 wins surpassing the old record of 14. The Bulldogs also achieved the longest winning streak in a season with 23 straight matches. They set records with the most kills in a season (1,616), kills per set (13.69), 1,490 assists, and 2,038 digs.

Under the guidance of Kretzschmar, middle blockers Gina DeLancey and Maddy Cardenas were named to the All-SoCon Second Team. Cardenas finished the season with 233 kills, 16 block solos, and 48 block assists. Cardenas finished second in the conference with a hitting percentage of .365. She was selected for the 2023 Jacksonville Invitational All-Tournament Team and the 2023 Buccaneer All-Tournament Team.

"I am incredibly grateful to Dave and The Citadel's athletic department for their trust and belief in my abilities as I step into the role of Associate Head Coach. Their support has been instrumental in my journey, and I am excited to continue contributing to the growth and success of our program while upholding the values and traditions of The Citadel."
