Slemp Records Victory, Early Offense Propels Bulldogs Over the Zips

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Landon Slemp recorded his second win on the season as the Bulldogs scored seven runs in the first three innings to defeat the Akron Zips inside Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, 9-2.

How it Happened
  • Akron got on the board first with a single to left center field that scored one in the top of the second inning.
  • The Bulldogs returned the favor by putting a four spot up in the bottom of the second with an RBI ground out from Phillips Daniels and a double from Travis Elliott that scored Reeves.
  • A fielding error committed by the Zips allowed The Citadel to plate one more, and then Travis Lott had an RBI ground out to make it 4-1 Bulldogs.
  • A sac-fly RBI for the Zips narrowed the Bulldogs lead to 4-2.
  • The Bulldogs answered back in the bottom of the third inning with three runs scored. A double steal from Matthew Lively and Elliott put a run on the board.
  • Wells Sykes singled to right center that scored Elliott from second.
  • Sawyer Reeves shot one up the middle for an RBI single, scoring Elliott.
  • The Citadel was held scoreless until the eighth inning, where Thomas Rollauer singled to left center, scoring one for the Bulldogs to make it 8-2.
  • Lott added one more in the eighth with a single that skidded past the second baseman and scored Reeves.

  • Javier Crespo was one away from the cycle; he recorded a single, double, and triple.
