COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Citadel men's tennis team headed up to Columbia for a pair of matches with the #16 University of South Carolina on Wednesday, falling by identical 0-7 scores to the Gamecocks.
MATCH ONE:Â #16 SOUTH CAROLINA 7, THE CITADEL 0
- USC swept the doubles matches as the No. 9 ranked doubles duo in the country bested the Bulldogs top-flight, 6-2.
- Hayden Shoemake matched up with the No. 72 ranked Toby Samuel at 1-singles and lost in straight sets.
- The Gamecocks clinched the match after Will Bush lost 1-6, 0-6 at 6-singles and Noah Van Dyke dropped his 4-singles match, 1-6, 2-6.
- Sebastian Kamieniecki faced another ranked opponent at 3-singles, No. 120 Jelani Sarr, and battled valiantly, falling 3-6, 2-6.
MATCH TWO:Â #16 SOUTH CAROLINA 7, THE CITADEL 0
- USC won the top two doubles matches, 6-2 and 6-1, respectively to earn the point.
- The Gamecocks won in straight sets at 2, 4, and 6 singles to clinch the match, 4-0.
- Teo Cariov pushed the 120th ranked Sarr to an extra game in the first set (5-7) and was no walkover in the second one either, falling 4-6.
- Shoemake won the opening set as 1-singles, 6-4, versus the 106th ranked Casey Hoole but the Gamecock rallied to take the match in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-3).
