Bulldogs Erase Deficit to Take the Series From the Minutemen

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel erased an eight-run deficit in the late innings of the game to win 11-9 and take the series from UMass on Saturday afternoon.
 
How It Happened
  • UMass scored the game's first run in the top of the first with an RBI single from Jack Beverly.
  • The Citadel scored in the bottom of the second inning on a Matthew Lively RBI single to left-center, scoring Anthony Hausner.
  • UMass scored four runs in the top of the third inning on an RBI single, an RBI double, and a two-run home run from Jack Beverly to make it 5-1.
  • The Minutemen again scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning with a bases-loaded walk, a two-RBI single from Matt Travisano, and a sac-fly RBI to increase the lead to 9-1.
  • The Bulldogs responded with a solo home run from Hausner in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Citadel returned the favor with a four-spot in the fifth inning, thanks to a Sawyer Reeves RBI single, which scored Travis Elliott.
  • Phillips Daniels had an RBI ground out, which allowed Wells Sykes to score to narrow the deficit to 9-4.
  • Thomas Rollauer scored a run on a wild pitch, and UMass made a critical throwing error, allowing Reeves to score and narrowing the lead to just three at 9-6.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Sykes tripled down the right field line, which allowed Lively to score from second base to make it 9-7.
  • Rollauer narrowed the deficit to just one as he hit a double down the left line, scoring Sykes and making it 9-8.
  • Garrett Fulmer recorded a sac-fly RBI in the bottom of the seventh to score Javier Crespo and tie the game at 9-9.
  • Reeves singled to left field for two RBIs, scoring Elliott and Hausner on the play, giving the Bulldogs the first lead of the game at 11-9.

  • The Citadel scored 11 runs on 14 hits on the day and erased an eight-run deficit.
  • Six Bulldogs recorded a multi-hit day and six extra-base hits.
  • Sawyer Reeves went 2-for-4 and three RBIs in the leadoff spot.
  • Anthony Hausner had himself a day with his eighth double on the season and his third home run.
  • Wells Sykes recorded his second triple and now is tied with Thomas Rollauer for the most on the team.
  • Ethan Fewell (1-0) picked up the victory after throwing 1.1 innings with zero earned runs and hits.
  • Jacob Terwilliger (0-2) was given the loss after 3.0 innings pitched, with five earned on eight hits.
  • Maddox Webb (S, 1) recorded his first career save on 2.0 innings pitched on three strikeouts. Webb also received his first career at bat.
