Baseball Drops Doubleheader against Valparaiso

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel dropped both games in the doubleheader match-up against Valparaiso, 3-2, 10-5, on Friday afternoon inside Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Game One
How It Happened
  • Valparaiso got on the board first with a solo home run from Carson Husmann in the top of the fourth inning.
  • The Beacons scored two more in the fourth inning with an RBI single and a stand-up triple, giving Valpo the 3-0 lead.
  • The Citadel scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single from Travis Elliott that scored Tyler Christmas.
  • Sawyer Reeves followed up with an RBI double off the right field wall, narrowing the Beacons' lead to just one, 3-2.
  • The Bulldogs had a chance in the bottom of the eighth inning with runners on, but the Beacons pitched their way out of it.

  • The Bulldogs scored two runs on eight hits.
  • Javier Crespo recorded three hits on the night.
  • Sawyer Reeves had the only extra-base hit for The Citadel in game one.
  • Landon Slemp (2-1) recorded his first loss of the season after 5.1 innings pitched on six hits with three earned runs.

How It Happened
  • In the top of the second, the Beacons scored the first run of game two on a sac-fly RBI.
  • Valpo scored three runs in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run from Connor Gisusti and a solo home run from Carson Husmann.
  • The Citadel got on the board with a stand-up RBI double for Chase Loggins, scoring Wells Sykes.
  • Sawyer Reeves scored the second run of the sixth inning with a fielder's choice RBI to tie the game at 4-2.
  • A three-run eighth propelled the Bulldogs to take the lead at 5-4. Reeves drove in a run with an RBI ground out.
  • Thomas Rollauer hit a stand-up triple to right field, scoring Wells Sykes to tie the game at 4-4.
  • Travis Lott gained the lead for The Citadel with an RBI single to right field, scoring Rollauer from third.
  • The Beacons tied the game at 5-5 with a squeeze bunt.
  • A five-run tenth inning for Valparaiso helped them secure the win.

  • The Citadel scored five runs on five hits in game two.
  • Thomas Rollauer recorded a triple and had two RBIs on the night to extend his season total to ten.
