Sykes Records Four Hits in Series Finale

CHARLESTON, S.C. Wells Sykes collected four hits in a 7-2 loss against the USC Upstate Spartans on the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened
  • The Spartans collected three runs in the top of the second inning from a Troy Hamilton RBI single and a Vance Sheahan single up the middle, scoring one, and the other runner crossed the plate with a throwing error committed by The Citadel.
  • The Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the fourth on a Garrett Dill RBI single over the shortstop, scoring Anthony Hausner from third.
  • Travis Elliott narrowed the Spartans lead to just one at 3-2 with an RBI fielder's choice, scoring Wells Sykes.
  • The Spartans added four runs on back-to-back triples from Grant Sherrod and Jace Rinehart to extend their lead to 7-2 in the top of the eighth.
