Dr. Jamel Brown, Track & Field, Class of 2009
Bolstered by a slew of impressive performances on the track, Dr. Jamel Brown carved his name into the record books as a premier hurdler for The Citadel from 2006-09. Specifically, he ran the 60m, 110m and 400m hurdles across both indoor and outdoor competition, racking up a pair of SoCon titles -- 400m IH (2008) & 110m HH (2009) -- as well as two NCAA Championship appearances, 13 All-Southern Conference accolades and school records for both the 60m HH and the 400m IH, marks which remain top five or better all-time.
Brown, who acted the Track & Field team captain during both the 2008 and 2009 campaigns, earned both his undergraduate (biology) and graduate (biology) degrees from The Citadel before proceeding to medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). After a four-year residency at Case Western Reserve University, he returned to Charleston to serve as an assistant professor back at MUSC.

Lance Cook, Football, Class of 1992
A four-year letterman for the Bulldogs from 1988-91, Cook operated as an integral member of the defense for multiple notable campaigns within The Citadel football history, helping set up the program's second-ever SoCon title just a season later in 1992. Overall, he assisted in 27 victories for The Citadel as a three-year starter at defensive end, including key wins over Navy ('88 & '89), South Carolina ('90) and Army ('91), eventually earning All-Southern Conference honors to cap his senior year.
Statistically, Cook still manages to maintain a significant presence in the record book, ranking third all-time in career tackles-for-loss (31) and seventh all-time in career sacks (8). He also led the 1991 defense -- the top-ranked unit in the SoCon for the season -- in sacks (5) and forced fumbles.
Off the field, Cook earned Gold Stars in both 1991 and 1992 while also acting as Echo Company Sergeant (1990-91) and Cadet 2nd Lt. Corps Squad Athletic Liaison Officer (1991-92). Following graduation, he was drafted by the CFL's Saskatchewan in 1992 before compiling a two-year professional career at outside linebacker for the Roughriders. Since 2005, Cook has served as a vital member of his community as a State Farm agent, owning a pair of offices in Hickory, N.C.

Hillery Douglas, Football / Track & Field, Class of 1982
A multi-faceted athlete, Douglas finished his career with The Citadel a seven-time letterman across football and track & field, playing free safety for the former while posting numerous records in the triple jump for the latter. With the football team, he competed as a Bulldog between 1979-1981 with team captain credit both his junior and senior seasons, collecting a notable six career interceptions while guiding the program to a 20-12-1 mark.
For track & field, Douglas reset the outdoor triple jump school record each year en route to multiple All-Southern Conference awards, locking in the still-current best during his senior campaign behind a 49'-4" bound. He also holds the indoor triple jump mark, set in 1982, behind a 48'-2.5" vault.
After graduating, Douglas commissioned into the United States Air Force, advancing to the rank of Captain while serving as an instructor navigator in both the KC and RC-135. He later entered the private sector in sales and account management, and currently owns Capital Services Group in Roswell, Ga., a freight brokerage company.
Â
Rod Moseley, Honorary, Class of 1974
Founder of the much-acclaimed The Citadel Brigadier Foundation Annual Kickoff Classic, Moseley ingrained himself in the fabric of Bulldogs Athletics for decades. A 1974 graduate as well as member of the sailing team, he notably began his contribution back to the school in 1993, taking over the reins as the TCBF President.
Bolstered by the experience of running the fundraising arm for The Citadel Athletics, Moseley opted to introduce the highly-effective TCBF Annual Kickoff Classic in 1998, launching one of the most impactful yearly campaigns still alive in Bulldogs tradition. As a 20-year chairman for the event, Moseley oversaw the raising of more than $1.5 million, helping create at least nine Brigadier Foundation scholarships for cadet-athletes currently at The Citadel.
Â
Stanley Myers, Honorary, Class of 1998
A four-year letterman in football for The Citadel, Myers completed his career 43-of-44 games started at quarterback, notably exiting the program ranked second in total offense (5,263 yds), fourth in passing (3,208 yds), seventh in scoring (140 pts) and eighth in rushing (2,055 yds). A co-captain for both the 1997 and 1998 squads as well as an All-Southern Conference second-team choice his senior season, Myers remains the only player in Citadel history to throw for 3,000-plus yards and rush for 2,000-plus yards in a career.
Following graduation, he went on to earn his J.D. from the David A. Clarke School of Law in Washington D.C., and also deployed as a captain with the 218th Infantry Brigade to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, finishing his military career as a Colonel. Myers became the first-ever African-American military judge in South Carolina history, and was also recently inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers. A leading member of The Citadel Board of Visitors as well as a significant figure in the Columbia legal community, Myers passed away on Sept. 27, 2023.

Chris Swauger, Baseball, Class of 2008
Despite ranking as the 16th-best first baseman in the nation coming out of high school, Swauger brought his talent to The Citadel baseball program between 2005-08, finishing his career with the Bulldogs as only the second player in school history to record 300-plus hits. He also left Charleston with the school record in triples (16), ranked second in doubles (71) and third in both runs scored (211) and home runs (38).
A three-time All-Southern Conference selection, Swauger primarily held down first base or played in the outfield for The Citadel, eventually entering the St. Louis Cardinals organization via the 26th Round of the MLB Draft. He competed in the minor leagues between 2008-14 before moving into a staff role, taking over as the manager of the Peoria Chiefs in 2017.
