EUGENE, ORE. – The Citadel graduate Capers Williamson finished second in the javelin throw at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Williamson, who is ranked 50th in the world and fourth in the United States as of June 18, threw 79.57m (261-0) to secure second place in the men's javelin throw at the Olympic Team Trials on Sunday afternoon.
To qualify for the Olympics, Williamson must rank in the Top 30 World Rankings descending list and third in the United States, which he has done at the Olympic Trials.
The native from Greer, S.C., will attempt to improve his season best of 79.57m in Canada to better his chances of qualifying for the Olympics in Paris.
Williamson won the Southern Conference javelin championship in 2015 and 2016. He holds the school and SoCon records and has qualified for the Olympic trials and the NCAA three times.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will begin on July 26 and run until August 11. The javelin qualification rounds will take place on August 6.
