CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team used a two-goal performance from
Chloe Washington in her Bulldogs debut and a clean sheet from
Zoe Santos to defeat Winthrop 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened:
39' – After coming on just seven minutes earlier, Washington worked a give-and-go with
Elisa Fuentes on the near side, beating the Eagles keeper in the bottom right corner, 1-0 CIT.
71' – Similar to the first half, Washington reentered the match in the 65
th minute before intercepting a Winthrop back pass in the 71
st, beating the goalkeeper on a breakaway, once again to the bottom right side, to give CIT an insurance goal.
Inside the Numbers:
- Washington appeared in her first match in nearly 22 months (10/23/22 for Stetson).
- Freshman Charlotte Seay once again played a full 90 for The Citadel on the backline while Eleina Bryant made her first collegiate appearance in the 87th minute.
- Freshman Adrianna Gill made her first start collegiate start, playing 42 minutes as all four freshmen have seen minutes for The Citadel over the first two matches.
- Days after her first win, Santos earned her first clean sheet, making four saves.
