Bulldogs Suffer Loss to Chattanooga

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel lost in three sets (20-25, 19-25, 16-25) to Chattanooga on Saturday night inside McAlister Field House.
 
Rachel Reininger led The Citadel in kills with ten kills, followed by Gwen Berry and Luci Lippelgoos with five each. Berry led the Bulldogs with 12 digs.
 
Lydia Larson posted 16 assists, and Mia Watson had 11. Alexa Psotka recorded two total blocks.
 
Sydney Jackwin led Chattanooga with 16 kills.
 
Set 1
Chattanooga took a 5-3 lead over The Citadel with three straight kills, but the Bulldogs responded with a 4-0 run, including kills from Karlie Vogelheim and Reininger to make it 7-5. A 5-0 run by The Citadel, sparked by a kill from Jordyn Sims, gave the Bulldogs the lead at 14-9. Chattanooga responded with their own 6-0 run to tie the set at 17-17. A late kill from Berry was not enough as the Mocs won the first set 25-20.
 
Set 2
The Mocs opened the second set with a 4-0 scoring run. The Citadel managed to cut the lead at one point with kills from Lippelgoos and Reininger at 5-4. Chattanooga's lead grew to eight on a 3-0 run at 17-9. A late rally from The Citadel reduced the gap to just three at 23-19, but the Mocs held strong to win the second set 25-19.
 
Set 3
The Mocs initially led with an 8-4 advantage over the Bulldogs, but the Bulldogs quickly leveled the score with a 4-0 run caused by three attack errors from Chattanooga and a service ace from Reininger, making it 8-8. The third set shifted in favor of the Mocs as they went on a 5-0 run to lead at 16-10. Chattanooga ended the set and the match on a 3-0 run at 25-16.

The Citadel heads to Western Carolina on Oct. 24 and then to Wofford on Oct. 25.
