SPARTANBURG, S.C.– The Citadel women's soccer team outshot Wofford 25–9 and battled until the final whistle before falling 2–1 in the first round of the Southern Conference Championship Tuesday evening at Snyder Field.
Wofford opened the scoring in the 16th minute on a finish from close range to take an early lead. The Bulldogs generated several strong chances in the opening half, recording eight total shots, but entered halftime trailing 1–0.
The Terriers added to their advantage in the 56th minute to make it 2–0. The Citadel responded with a strong second-half effort, outshooting Wofford 17–3 and maintaining consistent offensive pressure throughout the final 45 minutes.
The Bulldogs broke through in the 68th minute when
Samantha Grantham delivered a highlight-worthy strike off the right post and in following a precise feed from
Didi Turay.
Despite several late scoring opportunities, The Citadel was unable to find the equalizer.
Zoe Santos recorded three saves in goal, while
Alice Williamson led the attack with nine shots, including four on target.
The Citadel concludes the 2025 season with an overall record of 5–9–3 and 2–5–2 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs will return a strong core of underclassmen as they prepare for the 2026 campaign.
