Football Edged in Homecoming Defensive Slugfest, Falls to Wofford, 16-14

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- In spite of a memorable come-from-behind effort throughout the second half, The Citadel (4-7, 3-4 SoCon) failed to execute down the stretch against in-state rival Wofford (5-6, 4-3 SoCon), dropping a narrow 16-14 decision to the Terriers on Saturday afternoon at Sansom Field at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

"In the red zone you have to score," head coach Maurice Drayton said. "We were one-of-three and they were three-of-three in the red zone. That's the difference in the game."

KEY NOTES
-- Offensively, The Citadel finished with 367 total yards on the day, just two yards shy of Wofford's final tally (369); notably, the Bulldogs logged their sixth 200-yard rushing game of the season, closing out the contest with 201 yards on 45 carries
-- Under center, Quentin Hayes served as the primary threat throughout the day, racking up 78 yards with one touchdown on the ground -- a team-best -- while also accounting for 153 yards on a 12-of-19 performance with another score through the air
-- For the second straight game, Beau Herrington led the way within the running back room, registering 33 yards on 10 carries; Javonte Graves-Billips contributed another 33 yards of his own off two pitch plays as well
-- Within the receiving corps, Jihad Marks continues to serve as the squad's unquestioned top target, pulling down three catches for 107 yards -- good for his third 100-plus receiving game within the past four matchups -- with one touchdown; Graves-Billips and Braylon Knauth each tacked on four receptions apiece for a grand total 53 yards
-- Defensively, Darryle Ware paced the group with seven tackles on the day; Cale Williams, Jeremiah Holmes and Mikey Rosa each added five tackles as well
-- James Platte notched another solid game in the special teams, averaging 45.0 yards on three punts with two pinning the Terriers inside their own 20-yard line
