CHARLESTON, S.C. – Jordyn Sims set a career-high in kills in a 3-0 loss (12-25, 13-25, 27-29) to ETSU on Friday night inside McAlister Field House.
Jordyn Sims achieved a career-high and match-high 12 kills against the Buccaneers.
Gwen Berry followed with seven kills, and
Sam Barnes contributed six.
Mia Watson led The Citadel with 12 assists,
Savannah Freeman had two aces, and
Jess Martin recorded ten digs.
Whitley Rammel, Isabelle Iosua, and Makayla Bays all had eight kills for ETSU.
Set 1
The Citadel led 4-3 early in the first set with a service ace from
Megan Stone. ETSU took the lead at 7-5, but an attack error by the Bucs and a kill from
Alexa Psotka tied the set at 7-7. ETSU then started a 9-0 run to lead 19-8, which helped them win the first set 25-12.
Set 2
ETSU jumped to an early 11-3 lead over The Citadel with a 4-0 scoring run. The Bucs extended their lead to 13 points, 19-6. Two late kills from ETSU secured the second set for the Bucs at 25-13.
Set 3
ETSU opened the third set with a 7-2 lead. The Citadel narrowed the gap to 7-6 with a 4-0 run, including kills from Sims and Berry. The Bucs built a late 19-13 lead, but The Citadel started closing the gap with back-to-back kills from
Luci Lippelgoos and Sims to make it 19-15. ETSU maintained a late lead at 21-17, but the Bulldogs kept fighting back with back-to-back kills from Sims, a kill from Freeman, and an attack error to make it 22-21. The Citadel tied the set after two errors from ETSU and a service ace from Freeman at 24-24, forcing a win-by-two situation. Both teams would battle to 27-27, but back-to-back kills from ETSU would end the match at 29-27.
