Lively Records Two Home Runs in Opening Day Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. Matthew Lively recorded two home runs in a 9-1 victory over the UIC Flames on Opening Day. Russell Triplett picked up his first victory as the head coach for the Bulldogs.

How it Happened
  • Anthony Hausner started things off for the Bulldogs with an RBI ground out, scoring Garrett Dill to give The Citadel the 1-0 lead in the first.
  • Matthew Lively hit the first home run of the season in the second inning to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.
  • Dill drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Phillips Daniels to make it 3-0.
  • An RBI single for TJ Anderson that just fell in front of the left fielder for UIC scored Daniels and gave the Bulldogs the 5-0 lead.
  • Matthew Lively recorded his second home run of the night in the bottom of the seventh inning to center field, giving The Citadel a seven-run advantage over the Flames.
  • Hausner kept things rolling for The Citadel by recording an RBI single up the middle, scoring pinch runner Tyler Christmas in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Travis Elliott followed up Hausner with an RBI single, scoring Dill.
