The Citadel Shuts Out Mercer 8-0; Bulldogs Take the Series

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel records their first Southern Conference series win after shutting out the Mercer Bears 8-0 on Saturday afternoon inside Joe Riley Park. George Derrick Floyd threw six shutout innings.

How It Happened
  • Thomas Rollauer singled up the middle, followed by a failed pickoff attempt by Mercer, allowing Rollauer to advance to third. Aryan Patel drove in Rollauer with the sacrifice fly to right to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead.
  • The Citadel went up 2-0 on the Bears from a fielding error committed by Mercer, allowing Travis Elliott to score in the bottom of the third.
  • Matthew Lively executed the squeeze bunt, scoring Garrett Dill from third to increase The Citadel's lead to 3-0 in the third.
  • Lane Tobin doubled to right center field, scoring both TJ Anderson and Patel to go up 5-0 on the Bears.
  • The Bulldogs added their sixth run of the game in the fifth inning from an Anderson RBI single up middle, allowing Lively to score.
  • The Citadel executed a double steal, with Rollauer stealing second and Lively stealing home, giving the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
  • Landon Kahl extended the Bulldogs lead to 8-0 in the eighth with an RBI single through the left side, scoring Tobin.
