How It Happened
- Northwestern started the game with a solo home run by Preston Knott. Trent Liolios then grounded into a double play, which allowed the runner on third base to score, making it 2-0 in the first inning.
- Garrett Dill got the Bulldogs on the board at the bottom of the first with a solo home run to the left field.
- The Wildcats scored three additional runs in the top of the second inning, thanks to two RBI singles and one RBI double, extending their lead to 5-1.
- Phillips Daniels brought the Bulldogs within one run with a bases-clearing double, driving in Maddox Floyd, Landon Kahl, and Lane Tobin to make the score 5-4.
- Northwestern extended their lead to 7-4 from a solo home run from Liolios and an RBI single from Marty Kaplan in the fifth inning.
- The Bulldogs pulled within two from a bases-loaded hit by pitch by Thomas Rollauer to make it 7-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
