Strong Outing From Floyd Leads Bulldogs to 7-3 Victory Over ETSU

CHARLESTON, S.C. – George Derrick Floyd pitched seven innings, striking out six batters in a 7-3 series-opening win over ETSU on Thursday afternoon.

How It Happened
  • The Bulldogs scored the game's first run when Travis Elliott drove in Phillips Daniels from third.
  • The Citadel scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning on a Matthew Lively RBI bunt single and a Phillips Daniels RBI single to center field, taking a 3-0 lead.  
  • ETSU tied the game in the third inning with an RBI double from Grant Gallagher, an RBI ground out from Joey Little, and a passed ball that allowed Gallagher to score from third base.
  • Lane Tobin returned the favor for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the third with an RBI single through the right side, scoring Anthony Hausner and giving the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead.  
  • The Bulldogs jumped to a two-run lead in the bottom of the sixth with a Garrett Dill RBI double to right, scoring Thomas Rollauer and giving the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead.
  • Thomas Rollauer recorded a sacrifice bunt RBI on a ball back to the pitcher, advancing Hausner to second and scoring Elliott from third, bringing the score to 6-3 in favor of the Bulldogs.  
  • Lane Tobin added the seventh run of the game for The Citadel with a single to second base, as Hausner scored on a ball that bounced over the second baseman's glove.  
 
How It Happened
  • The Bulldogs' 29th win and 11th win in conference play are the second most since 2013, when The Citadel finished the season with a 35-25 overall record and an 18-12 conference record.  
  • The Citadel's victory over ETSU marks the first time since 2013 that the Bulldogs completed a season without being swept on the weekend.
  • The Bulldogs recorded seven runs on 15 hits.
  • Eight batters in the starting lineup recorded a base hit for The Citadel.      
  • Matthew Lively highlighted the Bulldogs' offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Phillips Daniels in the lead-off spot recorded two hits and an RBI. He hit his team-leading 14th double of the season.
  • Anthony Hausner had two hits, including a double, scored two runs, and drove in one run.  
  • Garrett Dill and Lane Tobin each recorded two hits and an RBI.
  • George Derrick Floyd (5-3) earned the win for The Citadel after pitching seven innings and striking out six, which ties his season high.  
  • Carter Fink (6-4) recorded the loss for ETSU after throwing 3.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits.
