SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Lifted by a mid-second half score from
Elisa Fuentes, The Citadel (3-4-2, 0-1-1 SoCon) collected the program's first table points of the season at in-state league rival Wofford (3-5-4, 0-1-1 SoCon), forcing a 1-1 draw with the Terriers Sunday afternoon at Snyder Field.
"From a performance standpoint, it's been a very solid start to SoCon play," head coach
Ciaran Traquair said. "We were really close to a result on Thursday and then battled well here on the road at Wofford. I'm encouraged by the spirit of the group and the battling qualities they have shown so far. Nice to get our first point on the road. Plenty of soccer left to play and we can grow from this start."
Fuentes, who punched in her second goal in as many games, found the back of the net in the 61' courtesy of an
Adrianna Gill assist, giving the Bulldogs the first advantage of the match. Wofford managed to match just a few minutes later in the 68', eventually logging the contest as a draw.
Overall, the two squads proved relatively evenly matched, as the Terriers narrowly led in both shots (11-to-10) and shots-on-goal (4-to-3) while The Citadel showcased the team's adept nature at procuring corner kicks, outgunning Wofford by a 10-to-2 margin.
Individually,
Alice Williamson and
Gabi Macer posted a combined eight shots, including two on goal for the former. Meanwhile,
Zoe Santos composed another solid stretch between the pipes, surrendering the single goal while logging three saves.
