Bulldogs Fall in SoCon Opener Against Wofford

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel dropped the SoCon opener against Wofford (15-25, 10-25, 21-25) on Thursday night inside McAlister Field House.
 
The Citadel (0-11,0-1) recorded 36 kills compared to Wofford's 32 (5-7, 1-0), and they also trailed in hitting percentage at .114 versus Wofford's .283  
 
Rachel Reininger led the Bulldogs in kills with eight, followed by Jordan Sims at seven, and Luci Lippelgoos at six. Lippelgoos hit a team-high .400 for the night.
 
Greta Pleuss recorded a match-high 28 assists.
 
Natalie Arnold led the Terriers with nine kills.
 
Set 1
The Citadel took an early 4-2 lead over the Terriers, going on a 3-0 run with two kills from Sims and a service ace from Reininger. The Terriers held a 14-13 lead over the Bulldogs, but the lead expanded to eight on a 7-0 run, making it 21-13. Wofford took the first set at 25-15 on a kill and an ace.
 
Set 2
Wofford gained an early 12-5 advantage in the second set, and the margin grew to 12 points after a 6-0 run, making it 18-6. Wofford maintained the lead as they won the second set 25-10.
 
Set 3
The third set started with both teams competing for the lead, The Citadel tied the set early on with a Savannah Freeman kill at 7-7. Freeman's third kill of the set narrowed the Terriers' lead to 15-13. The Citadel came within one at 19-18 on an attack error and a kill from Sam Barnes. The Citadel had a late push to narrow the Terriers' lead at 24-21 off an attack error, but the Terriers were able to take the set and the match at 25-21.
