SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Fueled by back-to-back victories during this past weekend's road doubleheader, The Citadel redshirt junior
Thomas Snipes secured recognition as the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season, helping lead the Bulldogs to the program's first league win of the campaign over Campbell in a split decision at the tri-meet Saturday.
"I'm not surprised Snipes earned Wrestler of the Week again," interim head coach
Luke Welch said. "He puts in a lot of extra work. He is coachable. He has been competing well, and he wrestles in competition like he trains. Hoping to see more accomplishments from him and others on the team."
Notably, Snipes, who moved up to No. 20 in the national rankings for the 165 lbs division earlier this week, picked up a key victory over the Camels' Anthony Ferrari -- clocked in No. 21 in the national leaderboard -- behind a 5-3 decision, good for his second win this month against Ferrari after knocking off the Campbell representative at the Southern Scuffle to open January via a similarly close 6-2 decision.
Additionally, the Simpsonville, S.C., product topped Rider's Brendon Abdon off a 6-4 mark as well during the doubleheader, finishing as just one of three Bulldogs --
Carson DesRosier (149 lbs) and
Brodie Porter (184 lbs) -- to register individual victories in both duals.
