CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Citadel (3–12, 0–2 SoCon) fell to Wofford (10–5, 2–0 SoCon), 95–86, on Saturday afternoon at McAlister Field House.
Christian Moore and Braxton Williams led The Citadel basketball team with 20 points apiece. Carter Kingsbury added 16 points, while Logan Applegate finished with 13.
After falling behind midway through the first half, the Bulldogs used a 12–0 run late in the period to pull within two points. Applegate opened the stretch with a 3-pointer at the 4:46 mark, followed by back-to-back 3-pointers from Moore at 4:11 and 3:43, and a 3-pointer from Williams at 3:21 to make it a 34–32 game. Wofford responded late in the half to take a 42–35 lead into the break.
The Terriers extended its lead early in the second half, building an 18-point advantage at the 16:30 mark. The Bulldogs answered with a 19–9 run to cut the deficit to 86–83 with 2:03 remaining, capped by a Williams layup. Wofford closed the game at the free-throw line, finishing 13-of-17 in the second half and making 18 3-pointers overall.
"I thought for the most part we executed on the offensive end, but I wasn't pleased with some of our turnovers," head coach Ed Conroy said. "We had 17 assists and 13 turnovers, but some of them came at really critical moments. We got it to a two-possession game late and threw it away a couple of times. We also weren't pleased with our closeouts to start the game and the second half. They have guys who can really shoot the three, and we have to make that tougher. There's still a lot of season left, and this group will come in ready to work."
