CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's tennis team fell to UNCG, 5–2, Saturday morning in Southern Conference play.
UNCG secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The Bulldogs earned a win at No. 3 doubles, where
Tucker Hendrix and
Reece Beckendorf recorded a 6–4 decision.
In singles play, The Citadel earned two points.
Brady Gober won at the No. 2 position in three sets, 7–6, 4–6, 7–5.
Graham Hardin added a straight-set victory at No. 6, 6–2, 6–2.
Ted Bagwell forced a third set at the No. 4 position before falling 6–4, 7–6. UNCG won five of six singles matches to secure the team result.
Head coach
Chuck Kriese commented following the match: "This was a tough loss in a three-hour battle," he said. "Give UNCG credit for prevailing a bit longer and better than we did. Our team is a darn good one, and we will keep growing."
The Citadel returns to the court Sunday, Feb. 15, with two matches at Georgia in Athens, Ga., scheduled for 10 AM and 2 PM
