SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel men's tennis team opened Southern Conference play Monday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center, falling to Wofford, 6–1.
Results
Wofford secured the doubles point with victories at all three positions to take an early 1–0 lead. The Bulldogs were competitive throughout doubles play, including a tightly contested 7–5 decision at the No. 3 flight.
In singles action, The Citadel earned its lone point at the No. 2 position, where
Brady Gober recorded a three-set victory over Jack Deveney, 6–4, 3–6, 6–4.
Several singles matches were closely contested across the lineup.
Noah Van Dyke forced a second-set tiebreak at the top flight, while
Ted Bagwell pushed his match to a deciding super tiebreak after taking the opening set. Wofford ultimately claimed five of the six singles matches to seal the conference decision.
The Citadel returns home to Charleston to continue Southern Conference play on Saturday, Feb. 14, when the Bulldogs host UNCG at 11 a.m.
