CHARLESTON, S.C. – Noah Van Dyke,
Brady Gober and
Reece Beckendorf recorded singles victories as The Citadel (2-15, 0-4 SoCon) fell to Samford (8-5, 2-0 SoCon), 4-3, Monday morning at the Earle Tennis Center.

Samford claimed the doubles point after winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Ted Bagwell and Gober earned a 7-6 victory over Sandeep Mohandoss and Darcy Nicholls at No. 1 doubles for The Citadel. Lukas Dvorak and Cooper Errey defeated Van Dyke and
Tucker Hendrix 7-6 at No. 2, while Santiago Arredondo and Parker Free secured a 7-6 win against Beckendorf and
Anthony Osipov at No. 3 to clinch the point.
In singles play, The Citadel collected three points. Van Dyke defeated Sandeep Mohandoss 7-5, 4-1 at No. 1 singles. Gober posted a 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 win over Darcy Nicholls at the No. 2 position. Beckendorf added a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 victory against Cooper Errey at No. 5 singles.
Samford secured the match with singles victories at the remaining positions. Santiago Arredondo defeated
Nick Stroumpis 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, Lukas Dvorak topped Bagwell 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4, and Vitorio Sardinha earned a 6-3, 6-1 win against
Graham Hardin at No. 6.
"Give great credit to Samford for having just a bit more under the hood than we had after 3 1/2 hours of battling," Citadel head coach
Chuck Kriese said after the match. "Both teams showed great fight and mental endurance, and the momentum flipped several times. Samford started by winning the doubles point with all three matches going to tiebreakers."

Noah Van Dyke put us on the board with a good win at No. 1 singles, and we continued to battle throughout the lineup," Kriese said. "The match was still undecided more than three hours in, and I am proud of the way our guys competed."
