Bulldogs Edged in Pitchers’ Duel Against Wofford, 2-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — In spite of an eight-strikeout performance from Will Holmes, The Citadel (16-17, 3-4 SoCon) narrowly fell to Wofford (23-11, 6-1 SoCon) via pitcher's duel in the first of a three-game weekend series at Russell C. King Stadium on Friday night.

Garrett Fulmer contributed offensively with two hits and a stolen base. TJ Anderson also recorded two hits, raising his batting average to .262 on the season.

Holmes tossed 6.0 innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out eight batters. Ben Brash pitched 1.0 inning without giving up a hit and struck out two. Liam Foley closed the game, pitching one inning, allowing two hits and an unearned run while striking out one.

For the Terriers, Hunter Herdon went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Alec Bouchard earned the win after throwing 7.0 innings, allowing five hits, zero runs, and striking out 12.

"I thought Will Holmes was the best he's been all year. He deserved to win the game," said head coach Russell Triplett. "We didn't do enough offensively. Their guy was good, but I thought we made it a little too easy."

The Bulldogs will face the Terriers for game two at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 11, at Russell C. King Field.
