ON THOMPSON: Local player who stepped in and helped an when injuries depleted the linebacker corps … will compete for playing time again this season at the inside linebacker position.

SOPHOMORE (2012): Played in all 11 games including his first two career starts vs. Samford and Western Carolina … made 26 tackles, including two tackles for loss … recorded a career-high nine tackles in a win vs. Western Carolina and six vs. Samford.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2010 graduate of Stratford High School ... lettered four times in football and once in wrestling and track and field ... served as a team captain ... made 120 tackles his senior season and was named team's top linebacker and to the all-county and All-Lowcountry teams ... selected to play in the North/South All-Star Game ... credited with a total of 298 tackles over his final three seasons ... captured a state weighlifting title and was a member of teams which won Class 4A region championships in football and wrestling.

PERSONAL: Son of David and Shirley Thompson ... full name is Ian Francisco Gulipando Thompson ... cousin, Tracy White, played in the NFL with the Eagles ... majoring in electrical engineering.
