Biography

CAREER (entering 2015 season): Took over as the everyday shortstop towards the end of the 2012 season and has started 131 of the last 133 games … has played in 159 games with 143 starts the past three seasons … has a batting average of .272 (143 for 526) with 25 doubles, seven home runs, 69 runs scored and 93 RBI.

JUNIOR (2014): Started 56 of 58 games, missing two contests early in the season to see his consecutive games streak end at 90 … batted .254 (52 for 205) with 10 doubles, two home runs, 27 runs scored and 36 RBI … tied for fourth in the SoCon with six sacrifice flies and was seventh with 152 assists at shortstop … returned from his two-game hiatus after having his wisdom teeth out to post a pair of three-hit games against Davidson (3/14-15), hitting his first home run of the season, driving in three runs and scoring twice in the second contest … knocked out three hits in the series opener against Elon (3/28) and had a three-run double in the finale two days later … drove in three runs in a win over Appalachian State (4/11) … went 5 for 12 with a double, home run, three runs scored and seven RBI in the final regular season series against UNCG (5/16-17) … sparked a rally from a 12-3 deficit in an eventual 13-12 win over the Spartans with a two-run double in the seventh and two-run homer in the eighth in the first game of a doubleheader and drove in three runs in another victory in the nightcap (5/17).

SOPHOMORE (2013): Started all 60 games at shortstop and had a tremendous season at the plate … batted .309 (73 for 236) with 13 doubles, five home runs, 33 runs scored and 52 RBI … kick started his season in a two-game series against Akron (3/12-13) when he went 7-9 with five RBI including a career-high four hits and his first career home run in the second game … turned one of several defensive gems against Western Carolina (3/30) when he made a backhanded play in the hole and gunned down Tyler White at first to preserve a 5-4 victory over the Catamounts … singled in two runs in the top of the ninth to cap a three-run rally and bring The Citadel into a 5-5 tie at South Carolina (4/9) before the Gamecocks won the game in the bottom of the inning … hit safely in 18 of the final 20 games of the regular season including a career-long 10-game streak from 4/14 through 5/18 … went 9-15 with two doubles, a home run, four runs scored and nine RBI against Charleston Southern (4/23) and a three-game series against Furman (4/26-27) and was named SoCon Player of the Week … the week included a pair of three-hit games against the Paladins and a two-run homer and RBI single in the opening game of the set … had three more hits including a home run and drove in a career-high four runs against Davidson (5/3) … was one of the Bulldog stars in a 12-11 win over Western Carolina in the second round of the SoCon Tournament (5/23) … had three hits including two doubles and matched his career best with four RBI then saved the day defensively in the eighth when he made a diving stop behind second base on a smash by Dakota Spiess and started a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play … the following day in the semifinals against Appalachian State, the Bulldogs led 8-6 in the seventh when he robbed Dillon Dobson with a leaping catch of a line drive that prevented the Mountaineers from putting the tying runs on base.

FRESHMAN (2012): Played in 43 games and started 27 at shortstop including the final 15 … batted .212 (18-85) with two doubles, nine runs scored and five RBI … had an average of .267 (12-45) in 23 Southern Conference contests … ranked second on the team with 90 assists and finished the year with a .957 fielding percentage … had three multiple hit games including two hits and three runs scored in the first game of a doubleheader against Davidson (5/6) and two more hits in the nightcap … also had a pair of hits and scored a run in the win over College of Charleston in the opening round of the Southern Conference tournament … had a season-high seven assists against Furman (5/13).

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2011 graduate of Cheraw High School … earned all-region honors all four years and was selected to the all-state team three times … received team MVP award twice and was a Gold Glove recipient … posted a career batting average of .450 with 23 home runs and 80 RBI … selected to play in the North/South Senior All-Star game.

PERSONAL: Johnathan Harris Stokes ... born Aug. 21, 1993 ... son of John and Christy Stokes … father played football at Wingate … majoring in business administration.
