Biography

2006: Will once again be the starting shortstop... will hit in the middle of the lineup, which is where he finished last season... had an outstanding All-Star performance during summer ball... has developed into a very good college player over his career... his improvement in all aspects of his game should make for a very exciting senior season.

2005: Started all 59 games at shortstop... ended the season with a .301 batting average getting a career high 68 hits in another career high 226 at bats... was tied for the team lead in doubles with 16, while legging out a team best four triples... led the team in home runs with 10, including the first home run of his career coming against Elon (3/19)... hit two home runs in the game against ETSU (5/6)... had homers in back-to- back games twice, with the first pair coming against Davidson (4/29) and (4/30), and the second pair came in the SoCon Tournament against Elon (5/27), and again later that night against the College of Charleston... led the team in RBI with 47, another career high... had 20 multi-hit games, getting four hits once against Appalachian State (4/9), had three hits twice, while getting two hits 17 times... had a streak of four straight multi hit games spanning from 3/26 through 4/2... had a ten game hitting streak spanning from 4/9 through 4/22... was the only Bulldog named to the All Tournament Team during the SoCon Tournament... played for the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League for the second straight summer.

2004: Played in 58 games at shortstop, while starting 57 ... was hampered by a leg injury and missed nine games ... batted .266 on 54 hits in 203 at-bats ... tallied nine doubles and 17 runs batted in ... reached base 20 times via the base on balls, while scoring 33 runs ... stole three bases on five attempts ... connected for three hits against High Point on 4/17 to set a new career single-game high ... had 15 multi-hit games and three games with more than one run batted in ... tallied a six-game hitting streak from 5/11 to 5/18 ... tied a Citadel record with 11 defensive assists against Old Dominion on 2/22 ... scored four runs on four hits, while driving in one during the Southern Conference Tournament ... scored one run and drove-in two on one hit against Coastal Carolina during the NCAA Regionals ... played for the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League.

2003: Was the everyday shortstop as he started all 57 games ... batted .303 with 66 hits in 218 at-bats ... led the team with five triples and had seven doubles ... led the team with 160 defensive assists ... compiled 20 multi-hit and seven multi-RBI games ... connected for a eight-game hitting streak ... had a team-high seven at-bats against Charleston Southern on 3/19 and a team-high 11 assists on 4/25 versus Furman ... posted a career-high three hits in a single game three times ... his three runs against Furman (4/25) and three runs batted in versus VMI (5/17) also set career-bests ... member of the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League's Sanford Mainers.

High School: Earned four letters for his baseball efforts at Eustis High School ... was named all-state and all-area during his high school career ... was a member of the 2000 Florida 3A State Championship team ... also lettered three times in golf.

Personal: Matthew Michael Matulia ... born May 24, 1984 ... son of Michael and Elizabeth Matulia ... father, Michael, played for legendary Citadel Baseball coach Chal Port from 1980-1983 and is the head baseball coach at Lake Sumter Community College in Florida
