Biography

2010: Drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 25th round of the 2010 MLB Draft... named to the All-Tournament team in NCAA Regional in Columbia... went 8-3 in 16 starts with an ERA of 3.71 in 104.1 innings pitched with 85 strikeouts... had a 20.1 scoreless inning streak, ninth longest in the nation that stretched from start on April 17 to start on May 1... second on the team in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and starts... went 6-1 with an ERA of 2.93 in 10 league starts... threw two complete game shutouts in a four- week span... first shutout came against Davidson [1] (4/24) when he allowed three hits and one walk and struck out a career-high nine batters in the complete game... also shutout UNC Greensboro (5/15), going the distance allowing seven hits, one walk and striking out eight... had a no-hitter against Marshall (2/27) through the first 6.1 innings, allowed one run on two hits, three walks and struck out six in the game to pick up his first win of the season... went 6.0 innings allowing four hits and one run with two walks and eight strikeouts in a no-decision vs. Appalachian State (3/27)... picked up the win vs. Furman (4/17) that started scoreless streak after going 7.0 innings, allowing nine hits, two runs, one earned run, two walks and three strikeouts... went 7.0 innings allowing eight hits, three runs, one earned run, one walk and five punch-outs in a win at Samford (5/1)... earned the win when the Bulldogs clinched the outright SoCon regular season title at Georgia Southern (5/21), going 7.0 innings, allowing five hits, two runs, two walks and five strikeouts... in the SoCon Tournament vs. Elon (5/27), went 8.1 innings allowing eight hits, three runs, one walk and struck out six in a no-decision.... hurled 7.0 innings in the NCAA Tournament vs. No. 16 Virginia Tech, allowing eight hits, two runs, no walks and struck out three in the 7-2 upset win by The Citadel.

2009: Led the team with a 3.42 ERA... sported an 8-1 record with 71 innings pitched and 52 punch outs... made 18 total appearances with 10 starts... 4-0 with a 2.18 ERA against SoCon teams... eight wins tied for second-most on the team... third most innings pitched on team... best starting performance came against Furman (5/8), going 6.0 innings giving up five hits, one walk and striking out four in the win... picked up first win of the season in relief against Elon (3/8), going 3.0 innings with a strikeout, two walks and two hits... pitched 5.0 scoreless innings giving up only two hits with four strikeouts in the win against Mercer (3/11) ... earned the win against #28 South Carolina (3/31), throwing 6.0 innings,  allowing six hits, two earned runs, four walks and five strikeouts... gave up only one earned run against Savannah State (4/14) in a season-high 7.0 innings pitched, allowing six hits, a walk and striking out a season-high seven batters... earned eighth win of the season in the series finale against College of Charleston (5/15), going 6.0 innings and allowing three hits, one earned run, four walks and three strikeouts... fifth on the team in strikeouts... fourth most appearances on the team.

2008: Led the Southern Conference with nine pickoffs as the Bulldogs led the nation in that category with 28... made 15 appearances on the year, starting nine games... struck out three in 2.1 innings pitched against USC Upstate (3/4) as he did not allow a run on three hits... in his longest outing of the season, pitched 7.0 innings against No. 18 Coastal Carolina, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two... matched that long outing with 7.0 innings pitched  at Charleston Southern (4/8), allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out two and earning his first collegiate victory... struggled in the start at UNC Wilmington (4/15), allowing eight runs on seven hits and striking out three... in 0.1 innings pitched at No. 18 South Carolina, allowed five runs on two hits and walked four... allowed one run on five hits, walked three and struck out three in 5.0 innings of work against Presbyterian (5/17) as he earned his second win in the regular season finale.

High School: A 2007 graduate of Wilson Hall High School... lettered in baseball and basketball all four years... coached by Chuck Sterling, Pete Richard and Wally Jones... played for the Sumter Legion team that won back-to-back state championships, coached by Wallie Jones.

Personal: Matthew Thomas Talley... born Aug. 8, 1989... son of Eddie and Carla Talley... father, Eddie, played basketball at Charleston Southern... majoring in civil engineering.
