Biography

FRESHMAN (2014-15): Proved to be one of the best freshman sharpshooters in program history as he became just the third newcomer in program history to hit 70 3-point field goals (72) … posted a .421 3-point field goal percentage, fifth best in Citadel history, after hitting 72-of-171 from long distance … Wright’s 257 points mark the 12th most by a freshman since 1972-73 … earned Southern Conference All-Freshman Team honors from both the coaches and media after averaging 10.6 ppg and hitting 53-of-115 (.461) from 3-point range in 18 league contests as he posted the best 3-point field goal percentage of any shooter in the conference against league opposition only … joined Cameron Wells (2007-08), Harrison Dupont (2009-10), Matt Van Scyoc (2012-13) and Brian White (2013-14) as the only freshmen to be named to both SoCon all-freshmen teams … closed out the conference season by ranking in the top five of eight team categories including 3-point field goals made (53-1st), 3-point field goals attempted (115-1st), 3-point field goal percentage (.461-2nd), field goals attempted (148-2nd), minutes (560-3rd), field goals (64-3rd), points (190-3rd) and points per game (10.6-3rd) … finished 78th in the nation in 3-point field goals per game (2.48) … halted an 0-for-9 stretch to open his career by emerging with 12 points (4-5 3FGs) in 11 minutes at Florida State … had his breakout performance in a 67-60 victory over Navy as he hit 6-of-10 from 3-point range and 3-of-4 at the free throw line to close with 21 points in 20 minutes … followed with a pair of double-digit outings against Chattanooga (15 points) and Virginia Tech (12), earning CRONS SoCon Freshman of the Week honors for the week of Dec. 9-15 … finished 4-of-8 from 3-point range in back-to-back games against Western Carolina and UNCG to open league play as he helped lead the Dogs to a 85-83 overtime road victory over the Spartans in the Greensboro Coliseum … was the facilitator for the Bulldog offense at East Tennessee State as he tied his season-high in 3-pointers (six), including four in the first half, en route to an 18-point outing … started the final nine games of the season where he averaged 10.2 ppg and hit 26-of-64 (.406) from 3-point range … he posted five double-digit games in that stretch including a 20-point outing at Samford where he was 7-of-12 from the floor, hitting six from beyond the arc … closed out the regular season with a team-high 15 points against Western Carolina where he hit five 3-pointers in 40 minutes of play … ranked in the top five of eight team categories including 3-pointers made (72-2nd), field goals (84-3rd), 3-point field goals attempted (171-2nd), field goals attempted (248-3rd), 3-point field goal percentage (.421-3rd), points (257-3rd) and points per game (8.9-3rd).

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minn. … a three star ESPN recruit who was fifth among Minnesota seniors and 49th nationally as a shooting guard, the best of any Southern Conference recruit … shooting guard that capped off his senior season with 523 points (16.2 ppg) and a second round finish in the Minnesota 4A state playoffs ... the sharpshooter ended his career with 1,356 points …  as a senior was named to the Minnesota State Championship All-Tournament team, Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA)All-State team, All-Lake Conference team and captured the MBCA state 3-point contest … finished his junior campaign with 474 points (16.3 ppg) while earning Most Valuable Player honors at the 2012 Augsburg Classic and 2013 MLK Classic All-Stars … solid junior season earned him a spot on the 2013 Star Tribune all-metro team and 2012-13 All-Lake conference first team … participated on the AAU circuit with the Howard Pulley Panthers, who captured the national championship in Orlando, Fla., in July 2013 … two of his Howard Pulley teammates, Tyus Jones and Reid Travis were ranked first and third in Minnesota, respectively, by ESPN’s recruiting database … received All-Lake Conference honorable mention as a sophomore after scoring 272 points (9.5 ppg) … drew national attention when he appeared on ESPN’s Sportscenter Top 10 for scoring three 3-point baskets in 70 seconds, including a tying basket in overtime of the Minnesota State semifinals ... participated on the AAU circuit where his  team advanced to the semifinals of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) Peach Jam … as a freshman in 2010-11, he came off the bench to score 87 points for head coach Ken Novak Jr.’s squad … part of a team that captured its third straight 4-A state championship while finishing the season ranked No. 13 in USA Today’s Super 25 … part of a traditionally strong high school that also includes notable alumni such as Kris Humphries (Washington Wizards).
 
PERSONAL: Full name is Jacob Johnson Wright … son of Becky and Brian Wright …  his great grandfather was the shooting guard on Texas’ 1943 Final Four team … Wright also drew interest from Columbia, Drake, Ohio and Vermont … major is business.
