Bulldogs Head North to Face Columbia and Fordham

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel women's soccer team heads to New York City for the first time in program history this weekend for games against Columbia on Friday at 7 p.m. and Fordham on Sunday at noon.

The Bulldogs (3-3-0) are looking to get back on the winning track after dropping 2-1 decisions to Richmond and North Florida to conclude a four-game homestand. The Citadel will be playing its first road contest since Aug. 24 after hosting five of its first six games.

Karina Schneider, Lea Raedle and Ana Mesa lead the Bulldogs with two goals each while Vanessa Aponte has a goal and two assists to extend her school record total in the latter category to 17.

Naomi Carter has made 34 saves, the top total in the Southern Conference, and she ranks third in the league with a save percentage of .791. She has one shutout on the year, a 1-0 victory over USC Upstate on opening day.

The game with Columbia (1-1-1) not only marks the first against the Lions but also the first against a member of the Ivy League. The Lions, who went 8-6-3 a year ago, got into the win column on Tuesday by defeating Fairleigh Dickinson 2-1 behind goals by Cadie Naquin and Grace Taylor.

Gabby Dubick has an 0.93 goals against average and produced a shutout in an 0-0 tie against Sacred Heart.

Fordham (4-1-0) has won four in a row heading into its game at Iona on Friday, allowing only two goals during the streak. The Rams are ranked ninth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, the first time they have achieved a regional ranking since the 2006 season. Sunday's game is the first between The Citadel and Fordham.

Jessica Widmann and Kate McDonnell have both scored two goals for the Rams with McDonnell earning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors on Sept. 2. Ally White and Megan Fitzgerald have combined for a goals against average of 0.80 and a pair of shutouts.
