CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel soccer team concludes a four-game homestand with contests against Richmond on Friday at 4 p.m. and North Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Friday's game will be the first ever against Richmond. The Bulldogs have played North Florida one time with the Ospreys winning 4-2 in Jacksonville during the 2009 season.
The Bulldogs are off to a 3-1 start and are undefeated and untied through their first three home games for the first time in school history. The Citadel knocked off South Carolina State and NJIT last weekend to open its current home stretch.
Lea Raedle and
Karina Schneider both have two goals to lead the Bulldogs while
Vanessa Aponte has a pair of assists to increase her school-record total to 17. Aponte is also tied for third in The Citadel record book with 49 career points.
Naomi Carter spearheads a defense that has allowed only five goals through four games. The sophomore goalkeeper has made 18 saves for a save percentage of .783 and posted a shutout in the season opener against USC Upstate.
Richmond is 1-2 on the young season and coming off a 4-0 loss to third-ranked Virginia last week. Meaghan Carrigan scored the first two goals of her career, and Lexi Prillaman had both assists in a 2-1 victory over Longwood. Peter Albright is the only coach in Spider history, taking over when the program began in 1996.
North Florida is off to an 0-4 start heading into Friday's game at Charleston Southern, its first road test of the 2014 campaign.
The Ospreys are coached by Robin Confer, a highly-decorated star at North Carolina during her playing days. She helped the Tar Heels win three national championships and was the 1997 National Player of the Year. Confer played in an NCAA-record 107 games, scored 77 goals with 55 assists and had her number retired by the school.
