Grapplers Take on Southern Scuffle

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team will head to Chattanooga, Tennessee, this weekend for the two-day Southern Scuffle tournament. The competition will be held in McKenzie Arena.
30 teams will participate in this year's tournament and approximately 300 wrestlers are expected to take to the mats over the two days of competition. Nine ranked teams will headline the tournament, including No. 1 Penn State and No. 7 Oklahoma State. Two national champions and 30 All-Americans are also in the field for this year's tournament. Seven of the 10 number-one ranked wrestlers will be in attendance at this year's tournament.
Also competing are SoCon members Campbell, Gardner-Webb, Appalachian State and host Chattanooga.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a two-week break for the holidays with their last event coming against Limestone when The Citadel picked up a 28-10 win.
Individually, Marshall Haas and Matt Frisch competed in Reno, Nevada, at the Reno Tournament of Champions. Haas took first place in the 197-pound division and is just the second Bulldog to ever win their division in Reno. Frisch finished the day 3-2.
Haas also jumped into the rankings for the first time in his career and is currently ranked 19th in the country. Behind his strong performance against Limestone and at the Reno Tournament of Champions, the senior was awarded SoCon Wrestler of the Week.
Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and will conclude with the championship matches on Saturday at 7 p.m. Results will be available at CitadelSports.com at the completion of each day's events.
