Tennis Drops Doubleheader to Campbell

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team dropped a pair of matches against Campbell on Wednesday by scores of 5-1 and 6-1 at the Earle Tennis Center.

With the losses, the Bulldogs slipped to 2-16 overall while the Camels improved to 6-5.

Artemie Amari continued strong singles play, picking up his eighth singles win of the season in the No. 4 position. After falling in the first set 6-3, Amari rallied back to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-1.

In the second match of the day, the Camels went up early and claimed the doubles point.

In singles play, Oliver Dedding fell by scores of 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot, while Peter Bleach was defeated 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 2 position.

The Bulldogs fought back to pick up a win in the No. 3 spot, with Amari nabbing his second win of the day in a competitive three sets. After falling 7-6 in the first set, Amari battled to claim the next two sets by scores of 6-3, 6-4.

Head Coach Chuck Kriese was pleased with the team's competitive play and Amari's resilience.

"Amari showed great heart today winning two tough three-set victories and continues to compete well," Kriese said. "The guys are learning to play from the heart, and there's a better turn out each time they step on the court."

The Bulldogs are back in action at 1 p.m. today against Davidson at the Earle Tennis Center.
