SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel's
Artemie Amari was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team for men's tennis, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Amari, a freshman from New York, N.Y., stepped in and made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs leading the team with 12 wins in singles play as he worked his way up the line up over the course of the year.
"We are so proud of Artemie and this is a fine honor," said head coach
Chuck Kriese. "He plays from his heart each and every time he competes and I believe he will continue to lead in the future and provide a good example of the importance of using their head, heart and legs each time they step on the court."
In doubles action, Amari picked up 10 wins, including eight wins with
Oliver Dedding, one with Nick Bradley and one with
Peter Bleach.
Amari and the Bulldogs now focus their attention on the SoCon Championship as The Citadel takes on the No. 1 seed ETSU in the opening round on Friday at 8:30 a.m., at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
